November 6, 2025Karachi: The Chairman of Bank Alfalah, Sheikh Nahayan bin Mubarak Al Nahayan, alongside the Board of Directors, has authorized an additional $5 million to support communities affected by the 2025 floods. This commitment elevates the bank’s total flood relief and rehabilitation contributions since 2022 to $15 million, reflecting its ongoing efforts to assist regions impacted by severe climate events.
Atif Bajwa, President and CEO of Bank Alfalah, announced the funding in a press conference held in Karachi. “At Bank Alfalah, we aspire to be more than a financial institution; we are a caring bank,” Bajwa stated. He expressed gratitude to the Chairman and Board, emphasizing the bank’s commitment to rebuilding lives and enhancing climate resilience.
The newly allocated funds will be distributed through partner non-governmental organizations to restore infrastructure, rebuild livelihoods, and improve resilience across the regions of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan. The initiative includes a comprehensive development program focusing on housing, education, health, and climate-smart agriculture.
The 2025 floods have exacerbated the climate challenges faced by Pakistan since 2022, affecting 33 million people nationwide. Despite ongoing aid efforts, over eight million displaced individuals continue to face insecurity in health and housing.
Following the 2022 disaster, Bank Alfalah initiated a $10 million response plan, implemented in phases for immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation in Sindh and Balochistan.
This latest allocation comes amid the 2025 monsoon crisis, which has severely impacted northern Pakistan. According to UNICEF, the floods have resulted in 946 fatalities, including 255 children, and displaced over 1.5 million people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, with Gilgit-Baltistan suffering from flash floods and glacial lake outburst floods.
